Job Announcement for a Full-time (Non-Tenured) Faculty Position
Department of English Language and Literature, Kyoto Notre Dame University

The Department of English Language and Literature at Kyoto Notre Dame University, located in Kyoto city, invites candidates for a full-time position (non-tenured), starting April, 2019 with the following requirements and conditions.

1.Position Shokutaku Lecturer (1-year contract, renewable four times for a total of five years)
2.Number of Positions 1
3.Major Field TESL/TEFL, SLA, English Communication, Intercultural Communication, Business Communication, or related field
4.Department Department of English Language and Literature
(Faculty of Language and Culture)
5.Duties
  1. Classes in General Education (non-English Majors): Basic English (up to 5 classes),
  2. Classes in English Department: Reading I/II, Speaking I/II, Listening I/II, Advanced Speaking I/II, Advanced Listening I/II, etc.
  3. Other duties including: English Immersion Program Support, English Program during summer or spring recess when necessary, and committee work, PR (e.g., Open Campus), Admissions, Public lectures, Proctoring examinations, etc.
6.Starting Date April 1, 2019
7.Labor Conditions
  1. Working Hours: Up to 10 x 90-minute classes (koma) per week, plus additional duties
  2. Salary: According to Kyoto Notre Dame University employment regulations
  3. Holidays: According to Kyoto Notre Dame University employment regulations
  4. Insurance: Private School Personnel Mutual Aid System
8.Qualifications (all of the following must be satisfied):
  1. M.A. in TESL/TEFL, English Communication, Intercultural Communication, Business Communication, or related field (Ph.D. preferred)
  2. Speaker of English with native-level fluency, able to use Japanese for general administrative tasks
  3. Two years’ experience teaching English as a foreign language at the university level in Japan
  4. Experience in and motivation for program and curriculum development
  5. High level of enthusiasm regarding education, research, and duties
  6. Residence within commuting distance of the university

  4. Single copy of main academic publications, including a short abstract (200 words in English, or 500 characters in Japanese).
  5. Sample classroom materials created by the applicant (for online materials a URL is sufficient).
  6. Statement of purpose / teaching philosophy
  7. Two references (name, affiliation, and contact info)
