Created in December, 1991, POETS, Personalized Online Electronic Text Services, is a research and service project at Kyoto Notre Dame University. The POETS project promotes intercultural communication and English language learning by means of electronic text and multimedia services.
For many years the POETS Society was an informal gathering of people interested in exploring ways of using information technology for language learning and cultural exchange. Although we no longer hold POETS Society meetings, some of our younger members, friends, and former students have become leaders in ICT and education in Japan. We applaud their efforts to raise media literacy, to support women in ICT, to promote free and open source software, and to pass their knowledge and wisdom on to the next generation of young people.
POETS Team members are now in their 60s. We hope to maintain POETS Web services until retirement, but we do not plan to introduce new POETS services.
